Ahhh, the beauty and wonder of nature! Many times people come to the park and expect it to look like the last time they were here or how it did months before or years before. Some things are fairly steady like the location of Starved Rock and the canyons. Other things are ever changing.

Depending on the rainfall of the year the waterfalls will be flowing fast and the trails will be wet and slippery. Other times, there might be a mere trickle and the trails very dry.

The leaves change color and the wildflowers bloom differently every year. The migration habits of the eagles are also weather dependent.

While we can’t push a button and make nature change, we do want to make sure that your visit is a good one. If there is a particular feature you are hoping to see, feel free to call the visitor’s center at 815 667-4726 ahead of time and they can give you up to date information about the park.
